Archive for the ‘Beta’ Category

I am an avid www.betawatcher.com , well watcher. I love going to their site to find out information on up and coming betas. It has been posted that FFXVI open beta was suppose to start tonight but it has been postponed for bugs in the system. I will say a few days and then you can sign up for Open Beta. Head on over to http://entry.ffxiv.com/ to download the loader at 1900 hours PST. This is one beta I have had my eyes set on and look forward to the beautiful graphics and the game play. I will post my character names on here as soon as it is up and if you feel like questing then hit me up in game.

**Update** I got into beta and wanted to try it out. First off their P2P sucks! I can download on uTorrent with speeds up to 1.2MB and with their client setting at dead 0.0b is killer and takes days to download (Which you are not suppose to use third party P2P to download…shhhhh) So, I finally get into the game, this thing is a memory and graphic hog and will only let me run the game in a medium sized window mode. Not only that everything is sluggish from the mouse movements to the character movements. I had a good enough graphics card to run almost any game and this one is not it. Also want to add that questing and trying to find out what to do or where to go next is difficult.

Gameplay:     3/5
Graphics:       3/5
Chances of me buying and subbing to this game : 0/5

I am sorry to say but I see this failing just like FFXI did. Well on to find the next beta.

LotRO Account Types

Posted: August 7, 2010 in Beta

I will be going over the account types for the upcoming release of Lord of The Rings Online Free to Play. I believe that Turbine has decided to do this to get people into the game to try it out for longer and either buy points or subscribe to the game (which is a very smart move on the companies part and this will be very successful).

Free Account (a misnomer but that is what it is called)
Free accounts are brand new players to the game. This is like the companies 10 day free trial but with unlimited time and some restrictions. Free accounts will be able to only create one character per server. There is no level cap for these players but the only areas open to them are the starting areas and Bree. There will be two Skirms open to these players. There is also a 2 gold level cap. You will also be limited to 3 bags.

Premium Account
Premium players are one of two things: A free player that bought points (don’t have to spend points, just buy and redeem them) or VIPs that let did not pay for the subscription. Premium players get an upgraded 3 characters per server and a raised gold cap of  5 gold.

VIP Account
VIP are subscribers to the game. It’s $14.99 for a month or $9.99 when you sign up for 3 months or more at a time. They will have everything unlocked for them in the game, as there are no restrictions for VIPs. As an added bonus for being VIP, members will gain 500 TP (Turbine Points) to use in the online store per month. Current VIPs that do not wish to pay anymore or dont have the money to pay will be bumped down to Premium player.

Getting Started Now!
Okay here is the thing, If you go out and get Shadows of Angmar and Mines of Moria (must have the original before the expansion pack) then once Free To Play hits, you will have the Moria content without having to buy from the store. Extra character slots which you will still have during free to play, and also the two character classes (Warden and Rune-Keeper). You will not have to worry about getting these items on the LotRO Store. Also, if you decide to not pay afterwards you will automatically be upgraded to a Premium account. Same goes with the people who have bought the game before and currently do not pay a subscription to the game. As a word of advice, GET YOUR GAME ON!

Lord Of The Rings Online Beta

Posted: August 7, 2010 in Beta

What geek is not a LotR fan? Thats right all of them are! Which means, I am right there in that boat. This game is 3 years old now, and Turbine has decided to follow in the foot steps of its other hit, Dungeons and Dragons Online. Lord of The Rings Online is going Free To Play.

NDA has been lifted from this beta and now I can talk about it. I have been invited since day one of the launch. I did not install the game right away because of school, so I waited till the weekend. This game has what it takes to be one of the best mmo’s I have played.

New Log-In Screen
Visually nice and easy on the eyes. I like the look of it and think it will be a nice change from the old one (even if a lot of the older players might disagree).

Revamped Starting Areas
The  starting areas received a revamp and it ties in your character closer to those in the books. I have also noticed in the human starting area that the quest are a bit different and are more focused towards a goal then it use to be before.

Skirms and Dungeons At Level 20
You can now start Skirming and finding fellowships at level 20. Dungeons are called “Classics” and you can instant queue with your fellowship and be transported to that dungeon. Also there is a new vendor at Skirm Camps called a “Classic Vendor”. He/She will take your skirm marks and certain marks you get from dungeons and exchange it for some pretty good gear.

LotRO Store
Just like the DDO store but filled with goodies for LotR. One nice little feature, once you get out of the newb area, you can buy the Riding Skill and a Mount and start riding right there! There are also “Quest Packs” that you buy to unlock anything outside of the starting areas and Bree (no worries for paid members as they get it all still, which my next blog I will go over the “Free, Premium, and VIP” accounts)

Graphics
Let me just say, WOW!
The game now uses DX11 and might I say it is stunning. The landscapes and the beautiful scenes make me fill like I am right there in the books and living the adventure myself as a character of J.R.R. Tolkien himself. The water effects of the reflections and the way the sky gets when it is raining makes this game seem alive.

Overall
I have had the most fun with this beta. Since playing, I have bought the Mines of Moria expansion pack and reinstated my subscription
to Lord of the Rings Online. This is one game I will be playing for a long while.

(Make sure to check my next post where I will go more into the account types, getting started now, and being ready for the upcoming Lord of the Rings Online FREE TO PLAY)

Medal of Honor Multiplayer Beta

Posted: August 7, 2010 in Beta

I have been part of this beta for the past month. Visually this game looks good and the feel of it is like any other shooter out there for the PC. There are quiet a few bugs and some have been reported and not been fixed as of yet. As a matter of fact, there has not been any major update to the game software since the launch of beta, from what I have seen.

One gripe I have about the game is the weapons, pretty much all of them, have a very accurate long range. I aim at a head from across the map and *BOOM* head shot with ease.  Also, I found respawn points for the team Deathmatch game and can usually get about 5 kills from respawns before they even know what is going on (which to me, I really hate spawn kills, and I have reported to the website about this.)

Overall it has been a fun beta and I jump on it from time to time to see any changes.

Scores (1=lowest, 5=highest):

Gameplay: 4

Fun Factor: 4

Controls: 3 (no scroll wheel weapon select, it is in options but not working)

Overall: 4
